What do the "OPAC" terminals in your Library look like?
Submitted by jaegard on Wed, 2009-05-20 10:34.Here at the Thunder Bay Public Library we are embarking on a study of our in-library OPAC Terminals (aka kiosks).
As I'm sure has happened in other Libraries, when we first automated the grand old card catalogue was replaced with a "pod" of computer catalogue terminals -- on which you could *just* search the catalogue (because it wasn't online). When the OPAC became online we got rid of the "pod" and reloacted individual kiosks to the ends of the stacks throughout the collection.
Web site updating guidelines: What do you do?
Submitted by jaegard on Wed, 2009-01-14 11:08.Hello Fab Library Friends!
I'm working on drafting some guidelines around how frequently our Web site should be updated.
At my Library we have a huge site, and I have drawn up a site map and assigned each page to a specific Department to update. Now I need to tell them how often to do it!
I'm thinking that there is a *wide* variety of info -- some is very stagnant, like Library addresses and policies -- and some is very timely, like "new and upcoming books" and program info. So, I think I'm going to suggest that every page should at least be *looked at* once a month...

Here's my platform:

I am an alumni of Leadership Thunder Bay, am an OLA Ad Hoc Web Site Poll Committee volunteer and team captain of TBPL Librarians Run for the Cure.
Planning for a Placement Student
Submitted by jaegard on Wed, 2008-12-03 16:33.I'm busy planning to host an MLIS student who will be with us for the next two weeks. We have a busy schedule planned for her, including working on some online tutorials, helping with class visits, indexing the special collections and working at the circ desk.
I'm looking forward to learning from her as well.
This will be the first student I have hosted, and am interested in hearing about other peoples' experiences.
