Reusable library book bags
About three times a year the circulation desk at the library would send out a call for staff to bring in their extra plastic bags from home, to help students who take out more books than they can carry.
I guess this fits into Reduce, Reuse, Recycle under the Reuse rubric, but I think before we Reuse we need to Reduce. I asked that no more plastic bags be brought into the library, but instead to offer reusable canvas bags (the grocery store variety) for a small fee.
The idea was accepted, the bags were printed with the U of Ottawa library logo, and they are now being distributed.
The problem is, they are falling apart! Which makes them not so reusable after all. Why the library didn't go with the supplier showcased at Super conference last year I don't know. Those bags are tough as nails! So now we have hundreds of bags that literally fall apart after a few uses (as mine did).
I tried. I did not succeed.
