Do I have a Web 2.0 Footprint?
What is a web 2.0 footprint, you might ask? It's all about making connections - blogging, twittering, responding, networking - getting known in the online world. Sometimes I wonder whether I'm all talk and no (well, quite a bit, but irregular) action on this front. Imagine my relief when Will Richardson, OSLA's Spotlight Speaker for Super Conference 2009 talked about just this in his popular Weblogg-ed blog: Web 2.0 Not for Everyone?. Richardson talks about how many people are very engaged online, but are just not writers. It's hard to get that footprint when writing's just not your thing.
But those of you who know me also know that this can't really be my excuse. Perhaps it's the age thing? I'll choose to live in denial about that, and put it down to the tyranny of perfectionism. It's about adjusting to the conversational nature of the Read/Write web, and trying to let go of a lifetime of training in getting things exactly right. So, what am I doing about it? We'll see. I've just made my first post on the InsideOLITA blog. I'm addicted to RSS, pretty engaged in Facebook, and I live my academic life on wikis, it seems, collaborating with group members from across the continent. The next frontier? I'm flirting with Twitter - a bit afraid that it could come to dominate my life. We'll see.
