The Library and Tim Hortons: the Importance of Proximity

By : Elyse Pike

Starbucks's operating manual, The Green Apron Book, encourages its staff to "provide an uplifting experience that enriches people's daily lives." That's a pretty lofty goal for a cup of coffee, but perhaps not a bad goal for librarians to claim as their own.

I never thought it would change their day, but coffee is life's blood to teachers. Having coffee in the library is completely integral to starting collaborations with colleagues. Because, when they come in for coffee, they also come in and get to talk to me! I also offer chocolate, especially at report card time, and it usually does the same job as the coffee!

The library and Tim Horton's

What a great read. The library in St. Marys is located right beside Tim Hortons. I would like to think that lots of folks visit both places for very similar reasons. We both contribute to the social fibre of the community. As I am sitting here right now sipping on my Timmy's writing this comment I appreciate the close proximity of Tim Hortons. Terri
