Book Trailers and permission rights

I am interested in pursuing technology use in creating book trailers to advertise new books and want to know what kind of permissions are involved in using music from a popular group.

Hi Laura, It's a bit tricky. To be safe, it'd probably be better to so with a place like www.freeplaymusic.com. I noticed that a video that one of my former students posted on YouTube in which he was dancing in a school talent show to a popular song had been edited to remove the music because he didn't have the copyright to it. Do watch that even on Free Play Music, you will have to read about posting - if you are using it for outside your facility (e.g. posting to a website), you will need to pay a licence fee. Could you get your patrons or studens to make their own music on Garageband?
