notes from the edge - 3

Monday has rolled around far too fast for my liking. I managed, over the weekend, to cook enough meals for my family at home and for myself at school, so as to make the days easier for everyone. I also visited the hardware store, have enough lighting and heat now to make my room more tolerable. I even managed to assemble the IKEA bedside table with only a few pieces left over, so I count that as a victory.

Today I had two classes, one on Reference and the other on online searching. Ironically, the online searching course is conducted in a lecture room, with no online capabilities. The readings for this course are all books, on reserve in the Graduate Resource Library, so you only have two hours at a time to read the assignments. I am amazed that with this course, the readings are not online (my other courses are mainly database accessed). There was a mad dash for the library as class ended, so I went for tea with another more laid back colleague.

I am having trouble connecting with the sharepoint sites for the courses. It seems that the sites do not want to accept my passwords. Luckily, the department offers IT help and courses every Tuesday, so I am going to take my questions and frustrations there tomorrow and will (with any luck) sort this out.

The makeup of the students in the course is so diverse, and the experience base is equally diverse. I am one of the few without a Master's degree already tucked neatly into my mortar board. We even have some students with PhD's. Although most of us are from Ontario, there are several Westerners (as in Alberta, Colorado etc.) in the mix.

It is snowing now, so I will end this entry in order to get out and shovel. The house has divided up the days and if it snows on your day, you are on shovel duty. I am sure I will have some pretty ferverent prayers over the next few months to keep Monday snow free.

Take care,
Peggy
