notes from the edge - 16
Lest some of you think I have given up on my adventure into the MLIS world, take heart, I just took a break from blogging about it. The first week break was due to Research Week, where I was researching what feeling well rested was like. It was blissful. The next break was because of trying to finish up some papers so that I could enjoy Super Conference (I paid for the blissful feeling from Research Week). I truy enjoyed Super Conference!
There was such a buzz in the building during the conference. It seemed that each and every speaker, keynote and activity only added to the general sense of the theme. Ideas were flowing and it was heady. I want to publicly thank the entire OLA staff and planning committee. Those four days will live with me for a long time as I try to put my ideas into perspective and decide where I want to commit my energy going forward.
For me, the height of the conference (and it is hard to choose, there are so many memorable moments and speakers) would have to be the speech by Lt.-General Romeo Dallaire. He is so extraordinary, humble and has such a powerful message. I left that a different person than when I walked in. I think he has a direct message to libraries. That is, we have an obligation and an opportunity to make a difference in the world; first by reaching out to our community and engaging them in the debate about humanity and social justice, next to continue to create spaces where rationale public discourse can thrive and finally to take action, especially to empower the youth to action.
There is much to think about, more later. Now, back to the papers.
