Underemployed: Preparing New Resume
My new resume is going to be considerably different from any of my previous resumes. Still chronological, there is a "Summary" of the resume in place of an "Objective" and instead of listing responsibilities under each position, there is a summary of duties followed by a list of specific accomplishments (basically "to solve x problem, I did y with z positive result" only written in a less formulaic manner).
I'm not sure about this format, but I think I should at least complete it and get it nicely polished before I try comparing it to my older style resume.
Also: I'm not sure I can deal with it being three pages, although the consultant assures me that it's not a big deal. Hmm, we'll see.
I've kind of enjoyed coming up with the accomplishment statements - basically take any project you've worked on, state why that project was being undertaken, what you did, and what the result was. Now repeat a dozen or so times. Even the smallest projects and goals-met, when listed up in this way, can add up to "Wow, I'm fantastic."
Summary? Significantly less enjoyable. Basically it's like trying to write several sentences all saying "Wow, I'm fantastic" and the don't-blow-your-own-horn part of my brain revolts, claiming that this is distasteful, and furthermore unprovable. Ah well. I'm putting it to rest for now, hopefully I'll get some inspiration before I come back to it.
